 RESEARCH

YOUTUBE

This application became our knowledge bank which was resourceful for us to research into the conventions of trailers, Zoe’s work on trailer ‘Form and Convention’ Prezi demonstrates this. Plus, every research post we made included a YouTube video whether it be the basic research of Trailers Analysis PowerPoints 1-15 to get the foundation of knowledge of the general conventions of postmodernism trailers in regards to camera work, editing, mise-en-scene and sound. Later on, it would be the further research into these aspects like ‘Editing and Transitions,’ ‘Props,’ ‘Costume and Make-up,’ ‘Lighting’ etc that I could gain this integral conventions from seeing these real media products to understand what the codes and conventions were for the certain genre of superheroes to either follow them or to challenge which in Question 1 of this media evaluation delves more into this.

Once we had constructed our trailer to distribute the promotion of our film we engaged in to utilising YouTube to display our work allowing us to easily communicate with the audience.

PREZI AND POWERPOINT

Sometimes media technologies came down to the simple usage for presentation, Prezi became a frequent tool to give a better and more interesting professional / personal way of exhibiting our findings thus also engaging the audience too. The ability to embed then allowed us to share these posts onto blogger.  For example…

PowerPoint on the other hand was not just used for the Postmodern Trailer Analysis as it was extremely useful in regards to allowing us to draw extensive cross research by charts.

OFFICE 365

This became a new founding of technology in my A level work to communicating with the audience, in which I was able to do extensive Audience Research into Music which it gave me percentages of options chose and then drew up multiple methods of displaying this information in pie and bar charts. Before in AS I had used PowerPoint for this but Office 365 was technologically efficient by automatically designing these charts for me once all respondents who I had sent links to my survey had completed it. Furthermore, the difference from this survey format from PowerPoint is that you lose the tracking on what each and indivisible respondent chose for all questions – Office 365 allowed you to isolate one respondent and cross examine each option for all the questions. Then I could essential refer this information into PowerPoint by the Snipping Tool available to Window Users so to draw my results so I could draw conclusions for each question.  .

CONSTRUCTION

ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CS6

To compile our footage we utilised Adobe’s Premiere Pro, a professional timeline based video editing suite that allowed us to organise our multiple clips to form our trailer.

This technology software enabled us to create the conventional montages as mentioned in my editing and transitions research and Zoe’s form / structure Prezi both highlight that to pull a conventional trailer we needed these montages as well as fast paced cuts. After being made discoverable how we needed to incorporate certain transitions into our trailer such as dissolves, fade to blacks, basic cuts and opening doors (that follows the long shot to Clary running down London alleyway) all could be done on this technology.  Furthermore, we could even cut down clips to deposit the unnecessary and manipulate the length of time it lasted so to create slow motion editing.

 GARAGE BAND

 GARAGE BAND

To compose our music for our trailer, Zoe and I turned to Garage Band as we had both had experience with this app. Its easy use of loops and manoeuvrability to change the volume in tracks to increase tempo during action greatly advanced our production.  Using the basis of genre of rock to follow as established in research of music that I underwent for research and planning had expressed how we needed to look at bass instruments, kits, drums and synths from which we could just experiment with to form our music scores. Majority of the time it came to experimenting to see what matched or sometimes even contradicted the accompanying sound to embody the reflection of conflict, thus mirroring Clary’s confusion of what is real or not.

 AFTER EFFECTS CS6

 AFTER EFFECTS CS6

This became both of our most beloved application we used in A2, as prior to this in AS neither of us had productions which we necessarily needed heavy based editing that required this proficient and professional editing suite. Every single clip was edited on this technology, along with credits, titles, logos, and levitation techniques. For example, the isolation of colour was done on this suite too, along with the black and white filter by the ‘leave colour’ tool changing the tolerance and using the eye tool to control the colour of the shot to be only that colour that was selected.

 PHOTOSHOP CS6

In the production of my ancillaries of Magazine Front Cover and Poster I designed them on here.

For Poster construction I had investigated into how to create energy balls by tutorials, using the one to the right as my basis template effectively to include within my base image. Poster development demonstrates how I was influenced by the enigmatic look of the matchstick that the protagonist is holding which illuminates the image on the poster. This software allowed my creativity to flourish via using multiple layers of freehand
